Escaping Earth’s Gravity in the Mini Space Race
Well, farmers, what an amazing start to Gemini 3h. Just 6 short days ago we launched the Liftoff phase of the Mini Space Race. This took place 7 days after the new network was deployed on the Launchpad and farmers started plotting.
Shortly after Liftoff the solution range adjusted and it was found that in that first week the network had grown to an impressive 1,584.07TiB. This was our first glimpse at what had been achieved in the previous week. The race had started and the finish line was revealed as being at 8PiB (8,192TiB) which, at the time, seemed a long way away.
We took regular readings to check on progress and found that just two days later we were already at 2,713.09TiB. Growth of around 600TiB per day.
The weekend passed and saw us reach 4,174.91TiB representing steady growth throughout.
The very next day we were greeted with an almost unbelievable number. Overnight, the space pledged shot up to 7,100.82TiB. Surely some mistake?! But no, the figures were right and meant that we were closing in on the target.
Just 5 hours later, Astral notified us that we had hit 8,182.06TiB. A tantalising 10GiB short of the finish line!
But wait, due to the way Astral rounds bytes, we had actually been tipped over the magic number and rewards had been automatically enabled in block 201,601. We could now see the block and vote rewards being distributed!
This is a frankly astonishing achievement. It means we saw 8PiB space pledged in just 13 days. The last ~6.5PiB plotted in less than 6 days and the last ~4PiB in about 1 day.
