We see debate in the media about how best to describe the Metaverse. How do you think of the Metaverse in a few words?
I’m a fan of the ever evolving nature of what the metaverse means…I love that it’s still very much wet concrete. Some terms/ideas I hope become sticky and become included in it’s final definition
-
Decentralized Virtual World
-
Autonomous Digital Worlds
-
the Independent Cyberspace
Love O’Reilly’s take of the Metaverse as new communication medium: “…a continuation of a line that passes through messaging and email to “rendezvous”-type social apps like Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, and, for wide broadcast, Twitch + Discord. The occasion more the point than the place.”
to be honest, it seems to me that the metaverse = game
the only difference is that it is built on blockchain
other than that the difference is minimal
U right, hopper.
Today, gaming certainly occupies the position of primary driver of the Metaverse. It plays a vital role in bootstrapping interest from the mainstream.
Personally, I believe it comes down to the application building engaging experiences to drive user attention (Sandbox, for instance, succeeded in this at times).
Easier said than done, of course. It may take long to develop new and fun experiences in the Metaverse.
